I’m Phil Hurd, an independent software technology recruiter with a track record of success spanning 30 years and every conceivable type of hiring conditions, from the boom days of the Internet Bubble, through three recessions.

My core principles as a recruiter are to make good matches that I can be proud of, to conduct business openly and transparently, and to use my own early career experiences as an engineer to inform how I can best work for the benefit of my client companies and candidates.

The majority of my personal recruiting practice has focused on the Greater Boston, Massachusetts and New England software community.

I studied engineering in school (BSEE Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute / RPI, MSEE Northeastern University), and spent several years as a computer engineer, but after much soul-searching I realized that, while I liked being around technology, I preferred working with people to sitting in a lab. That’s what led to my making a career change to software recruiting in 1987, and I haven’t looked back since!

As a rookie, I quickly became a top performer at a large and well-respected regional recruiting company, Winter Wyman, before eventually leaving to co-found Lynx, which by the late 1990’s had become a leading boutique recruiting firm. By 2014 it was time for a new challenge, so I reinvented myself as a solo recruiting practitioner, launching Oculus Search Partners to provide maximum personal attention and engagement to a select group of client companies and software professionals.
